On Saturday, September 7, 2013, the MHGA held it's first New Hop Grower Workshop. Over 75 people attended the workshop held at the University of Minnesota's Southern Research and Outreach Center.
Many thanks to all the speakers: John Brach (MHGA president), Charlie Rohwer (U of M hop researcher), Rich Joseph (Wisconsin Hop Exchange), Jeremy Munson (MHGA VP), Joshua Havill and Ian Bottorff (U of M Students), Bobby Blasey (Mankato Brewery).
And a big thanks to Betsy Wieland (U of M), Jill Sackett (U of M), and Jenn Foley (MHGA) for facilitating and supporting the event.
Finally, thanks goes to the University of Minnesota for hosting and co-sponsoring the workshop.
The MHGA is discussing holding a few in-depth sessions this winter which build upon topics presented at the workshop. Stay tuned!!
We have reached the limit on the number of attendees for our New Hop Grower Workshop this Saturday! Thanks to everyone who has registered. It is sure to be a valuable event to anyone who is considering growing or has just begun to grow hops.
Stay tuned to our web page for more news and information from the Minnesota Hop Growers Association.
See you at the workshop!
If you can't attend our New Grower Workshop in Waseca on September 7th, there is another event you should consider. On Saturday, Lift Bridge Brewery in Stillwater is hosting their 5th Anniversary Pickin' & Grinnin' which celebrates Minnesota's annual hop harvest. Lift Bridge has again partnered with MHGA member grower Hippity Hops to supply the fresh hops for the event and Lift Bridge's special brew, the Harvestör™.
This is a fun event where you can help pick hops brought in directly from the hop yard at Hippity Hops. There will be live music, brewery tours, special beer tappings, and more. So if you can't make the workshop...and you really should...then have some fun with our friends at Hippity Hops and Lift Bridge Brewing.
You can find out more about and register for Pickin' & Grinnin' at their event page: https://www.eventbrite.com/event/7965941345/
